List Customizer
Learn how to customize WordPress admin list tables with thumbnails, info modals, and reorganized fields.
Overview
The List Customizer service transforms the way WordPress admin list tables (Posts, Pages, and custom post types) display information. Reposition fields across multiple display zones, enable thumbnails, restyle row actions, and save different layouts as named Views.
Getting Started
- Go to RakuWP > Services in your WordPress admin and enable the List Customizer service.
- Navigate to RakuWP > List Customizer to open the settings page.
- Select the post type tab you want to customize (Posts, Pages, or any custom post type).
Display Zones
Each field can be placed in one of four display zones by dragging it:
| Zone | Where it appears |
|---|---|
| Title Column | Below the post title in the main title column |
| Column | As a separate table column |
| Info Modal | In an "i" hover popup next to the title |
| Expanded Options | In a "..." dots popup at the end of the row |
Fields not assigned to any zone are placed in the Available Fields pool and won't be displayed.
Available Fields
The following native fields are available for customization:
- Author — Post author name
- Date — Publication or last modified date
- Categories / Tags — Taxonomy terms
- ID — Post ID
- Slug — URL slug
- Word Count — Number of words in the content
- Comments — Comment count
- Status — Draft, Published, Pending, etc.
- Featured Image — Thumbnail preview
- Template — Page template name
Plugin-added columns (e.g., from Yoast SEO, WooCommerce) are auto-discovered and can be shown as columns or hidden.
Thumbnail Column
Toggle the Thumbnail switch to add a featured image thumbnail column right after the checkbox. This makes it easy to visually scan posts in the admin list.
Row Actions Display
Choose how row actions (Edit, Trash, View, etc.) are displayed:
- Text — Default text links
- Icon + Text — Icons alongside text labels
- Icon — Compact icon-only buttons
Views
Views let you save different layout configurations and switch between them quickly.
Creating a View
- Click the Save as View... button
- Enter a name (e.g., "Compact", "Editorial") and pick a color
- The current layout is saved as the new view
Switching Views
Click any view pill in the view bar to switch. The layout updates immediately. Views are also available directly on the edit.php page as colored pill buttons above the post list.
Deleting a View
Hover over a view pill and click the delete button. You cannot delete the last remaining view.
Resetting
Click Reset All to clear all List Customizer settings across all post types. This removes all field positions, views, and display preferences.
Views
Views let you save multiple layout presets per post type. Each view stores its own field arrangement, display zones, and column order.
- Create a view — Click the + button in the view switcher bar, give it a name and optionally a color.
- Switch views — When two or more views exist, a switcher bar appears at the top of the post list. Click a view name to apply it instantly.
- Edit or delete — Right-click a view tab to rename, change color, or delete it.
Views are great for teams where different roles need different column layouts — editors might want a content-focused view while SEO managers need meta fields visible.
